On Thinking Up

On Thinking Up

Within each practice, a person has their own favorite set of movements.

For me, these have always been arm balances and inversions.

They've proven to be the most difficult for me and as such, also the most rewarding.

One thing I learned from someone else a long time ago that helped immensely was "think up".

When doing something like a Crow Pose or handstand, it's easy to focus too much on the ground.

However, this also brings our intention downward, as well.

By thinking "up", we bring the necessary focus needed to move in the direction we actually intend to go - balanced up and away from the ground.

This is essentially what we do when we stand, only switching the hands and feet requires us to retrain the body and mind.
