When speaking about clarity in relation to goals, it is oftentimes to highlight its necessity for direction.
All the hard work in the world might be useless if said effort is put in the wrong direction.
However, another benefit to clarity - perhaps a more obvious one - is having a reason.
This is not just knowing what you want, but rather truly understanding it at a deeper level.
This is the only reason delayed gratification really has any worth.
Why save and invest when you could just spend the money now? There has to be a reason.
Why practice self control when you could just eat whatever you want, however often you want? There must be a reason.
Why get up early or stay up late improving whatever skills you're developing when you could just sleep instead? There has to be a reason.
Without a valid reason, most difficult activities simply aren't worth it.
Therefore, gaining clarity on a goal is key. This serves as the reason to do what would otherwise not make any sense to do.
